SBPD: 5 Victims Shot, 169 Rounds Fired In 30 Hours In City

South Bend Police issued a plea for help for the public to come forward after a rash of gunfire in the city left 5 people injured, including a 13-year-old. In 30 hours, at least 169 shots were fired in the city.

In less than 30 hours, 5 people, including a 13-year-old, were shot and our officers responded to at least 169 shots fired.

These bullets must go somewhere, and we really need the help from our community to put an end to this reckless, dangerous, and criminal behavior that is putting so many lives and property at risk.

We are pleading with you to come forward with any information. As a community, we need to

FRIDAY MORNING AROUND 12:30AM

Officers responded to the 2000 block of W. Linden, 2300 block of W. Linden, 300 block of N.
Johnson, 200 block of N. Jackson, 200 block on N. College, 1700 block of W. Florence, 500 block of N. College, 1300 block of W. Fassnacht, 1400 block of W. Fassnacht and 1300 block of Linden for shots fired.


In all, evidence confirmed 71 shots were fired, there could be more.


Preliminary reports indicate that vehicles were driving in these locations with occupant(s) shooting at each other. One vehicle is described as a white Chrysler, possibly a 300. The other is described as a black, possibly Nissan Maxima or similar. One of the cars has headlights with a “blue haze”.


FRIDAY MORNING AROUND 2:30AM

Officers were called to Memorial Hospital after someone walked in with a gunshot wound.

The victim told police they were in the 2200 block of S. Franklin Street when shot.

Evidence confirms at least 1 shot was fired.


FRIDAY AFTERNOON JUST AFTER 2PM


Officers were called to the 1700 block of Kemble Avenue for shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a 13-year-old had been shot. The teen was taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injures.


Evidence confirmed at least 5 shots were fired, there could be more.


FRIDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 5PM


Officers responded to the 1800 block of Webster after hearing shots fired. When they arrived,
witnesses confirmed hearing the shots. No injuries were reported.


Evidence confirmed at least 2 shots were fired, there could be more.


FRIDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 5:30PM


Officers were called to the area of Napier Street and Chestnut Street for reports of shots fired.
While en-route, dispatch stated a dog had been shot and killed. Dispatch then advised of a shooting victim in the 1400 block of W. Dubail Street.


Officers made contact with the victim who was taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threating injuries.


Witness statements and evidence show the victim was shot on Chestnut Street and made his way to Dubail Street.


Evidence confirmed at least 4 shots were fired, there could be more.


FRIDAY NIGHT TO SATURDAY MORNING


Between 11PM Friday night and 2:20AM Saturday Morning, officers were called to the area of
Olive Street and Bertrand Street three different times for reports of shots fired.


Reports indicate 54 rounds were fired and dozens of cars were seen in the area. When officers
arrived, the cars dispersed. No injuries were reported.


SATURDAY MORNING AROUND 2:20AM

Officers were called to the 1000 block of W. Kinyon Street for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they learned a residence had been struck but no injuries were reported.


Evidence confirmed at least 8 shots were fired, there could be more.


SATURDAY MORNING AROUND 4AM


Officers responded to the area of McKinley and Ironwood after hearing shots fired. No injuries were reported.


Evidence confirmed at least 4 shots were fired, there could be more.


SATURDAY MORNING JUST AFTER 5:30AM


Officers were called to the area of Olive Street and Bertrand Street for the fourth time for shots fired.


When officers arrived, they learned two victims self-transported to the hospital with non-life
threatening injures.


Evidence shows at least 74 casings were collected, there could be more.


All these cases remain under investigation.
