A local South Bend band has advanced into the competition on the NBC singing reality show The Voice. Girl Named Tom is made up of three siblings — Caleb, Joshua and Bekah Liechty.
During the Monday night premiere of The Voice’s twenty-first season, the acoustic pop trio performed Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Helplessly Hoping” in a blind audition where show’s celebrity judges listen to the performance while facing the audience.
If one of the show’s judges likes an act, they hit a button to turn their chair around and face the stage. And all four judges — Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Ariana Grande — hit that button for Girl Named Tom.
All four judges pitched the trio to join their team, and the group picked Kelly Clarkson to be their coach. She was the first judge to turn her chair, doing so just 15 seconds into their performance.
The siblings grew up in the small northwest Ohio town of Pettisville but have been based in South Bend since last March.
Next, they will battle against one of the other acts who joined Clarkson’s team.
The voice airs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on WNDU.
