Elkhart County Sheriff asking public for any information on recent string of barn fires

The Elkhart County Sheriff is requesting any information from the public related to a recent string of barn fires.

Two separate barn fires occurred last Friday, Oct. 1. They were the most recent in a string of eight incidents across the county dating back to April 2021. Residents and law enforcement officials suspect the fires may be the result of arson.

Here are the eight fires the sheriff’s office is seeking information on:

  • 13394 CR 48 Syracuse — Oct. 1
  • 72648 CR 43 Syracuse — Oct. 1
  • 25445 CR 38 Goshen — Sept. 18
  • 62045 CR 9 Goshen — Sept. 19
  • 61524 CR 1 Elkhart — May 3
  • 70383 CR 29 Syracuse — April 27
  • 23350 CR 38 Goshen — April 13
  • 69576 CR 13 New Paris — April 13

The sheriff’s office is also asking residents in the area of the fires to review home security or surveillance footage for suspicious activity around the dates of the fires.
In a news release, the office said to contact Detective Bob Smith with any information about the fires at 574-891-2352. You can also send an email tip to ECSDTipLine@elkhartcountysheriff.com or submit one online.
