Berrien and Cass County Groups Hold Discussion on Civil Discourse

Three groups in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan are coming together to offer a forum on civil discourse on Wednesday.

The event will start with a panel discussion by four local politicians, followed by a group discussion.

It’s being co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties, the OutCenter of Southwest Michigan and the Rebecca Dewey Three Oaks Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Marilyn Klawiter is the president of the League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties.

“We have such a divided political world now and I think active discussion about real issues is the way out of this morass that we find ourselves in and into something really constructive.”

Klawiter says the idea came after a particularly respectful political debate before the 2018 elections.

She says the idea is not to stop people from disagreeing, but to teach ways to disagree in a more respectful and productive way.

The event is at Berrien RESA Conference Center in Berrien Springs on Wednesday. It starts at 6:30.
