It's Bike to Work Week

This week is National Bike to Work Week and groups in Michiana are stepping up with their own events. The week kicked off on Monday night with a group ride.

The Michiana Bicycle Association does group rides every Monday in South Bend, but this week was a bit different.

“We normally start at Pinhook Park,” said Teresa Sheppard the association’s secretary. “But for Bike to Work Week we start somewhere here on Northside Boulevard so we can involve more of the community.”

Part of that community is Kristin Trosper, who was there with her husband. She said she lives too far away to ride to work but she’s introducing their four-year-old son to biking.

“Now that he is old enough to ride on the back, it’s our first big trip actually, as a family so really excited.”

The ride mostly used trails along the river for a leisurely 10 mile ride.

Tuesday morning there's a pancake breakfast for cyclists on the plaza in front of the Morris from 6 to 9 a.m. There's a bike to work Clinic on Wednesday and Happy Hour at Elecrtic Brew on Thursday in Goshen. Also a bike to work breakfast and after work ride in Elkhart on Friday.
