Elkhart County officials say the most-blocked railroad crossings in 2025 were at county roads, 50, 42 and 29. They say a website with live information about whether crossings are open is getting 500 to 700 views per day.

The South Bend Redevelopment Commission earlier this month approved hiring a consultant to study whether a passenger platform can be built between existing tracks, and assess whether the passenger tunnel under the tracks is still structurally sound for passenger access. The city also plans to seek federal funding for design and planning.
