Local leaders, state lawmakers discuss tax reform concerns and possible next steps

A tax discussion drew more than 400 residents to the Goshen Theater on Wednesday, according to the city. “If you would have told me that hundreds and hundreds of people would come out for a lecture on taxes . . . I would say, ‘Only in Goshen,’” said Mayor Gina Leichty.

Local leaders issued a joint statement urging the Indiana General Assembly to correct unintended consequences in Senate Enrolled Act 1 during the 2026 legislative session.

Lucy Kramer, an Americorps colleague serving the city of Goshen, tends to a tree in the city. Kramer was one of five Americorps members who learned Friday that the Trump Administration had eliminated their funding before they had completed their year-long service term. The city is replacing their stipend with money from another federal grant.
