Elkhart's city council discussed a new bill that will require landlords to register their properties and pass inspections to ensure they meet minimum health and safety standards.

The Elkhart Common Council voted in 2017 to repeal a 2006 ordinance that created a rental housing inspection program, with some members saying its uneven enforcement was unfair to landlords who complied.
