A St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department officer's vehicle in a roadside ditch along the U.S. bypass Tuesday. Sheriff Bill Redman said the officer was responding to a crash when he noticed a semi- coming toward him, and intentionally drove off the road to avoid being hit.
