Part of the protective barrier around lead-contaminated soil has come down at a Conn-Selmer brownfield site at 1101 E. Beardsley Ave. in Elkhart. Leaders with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson at a press conference Tuesday, March 16 regarding the EPA's plans to remove lead-contaminated soil from the former Conn-Selmer site at 1101 E. Beardsley Ave.

Houses built before 1978 are at risk of have lead contamination, not only in the paint, but in the soil around the house.
