low-income housing tax credits

The 174-unit Beacon Heights Apartments on South Bend's northwest edge will receive their first major investment since their construction in the 1940s. Federal tax credits will keep the new owners from raising rents to pay for the renovation.

The three projects — two on South Bend's south side and one on the city's western edge — would create a total of 272 apartments with income-based rents.
