Portage Township’s new advanced ambulance service cuts response times from 15 to just a few minutes, bringing life-saving care directly to residents for the first time.

A new St. Joseph County Fire Territory will take the place of the Southwest Central Fire Territory next year. Though it could have encompassed more territory than first planned.

The old township fire stations weren't designed for living quarters but many townships have gradually shifted from volunteer to paid firefighters
