NEW: South Bend mayoral candidate jailed

St. Joseph Co. Jail

NEW: South Bend mayoral candidate Will Smith was jailed this morning in South Bend at the St. Joseph County Jail.  He is being held for Miami County on no bond. This comes just hours before Smith is scheduled to participate in a debate among democratic mayoral candidates for South Bend mayor. The prosecutor out of Miami County is charging Smith with felony theft involving a 2019 Forest River travel trailer taken from RV Dynasty in Bunker Hill last month.   

ORIGINAL POST:  (SOUTH BEND) - Nine of the candidates for the democratic nomination for South Bend mayor will appear at a debate tonight. 

     The event is hosted by the League of Women Voters of South Bend and the American Democracy Project of IU South Bend.  It starts at 6pm at Northside Hall at IUSB

     The nine candidates are Lynn Coleman, Jason Critchlow, Oliver Davis, James Mueller, Shane Inez, Regina Williams-Preston, Salvador Rodriguez, Will Smith and Richard Wright. 

     The event is free and open to the public.

     Indiana municpal election primaries are on Tuesday, May 7.
