The Matchsellers will perform a 50-minute concert and then appear on a live taping of The Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour, which is distributed on WVPE Radio and WNIT Television. Hailing from the heartland of America, The Matchsellers infuse traditional roots music with a modern, irreverent twist and call it Kansas City Bluegrass. Their songs are a rich tapestry of storytelling, humor, and sentimentality, offering a fresh take on timeless themes.
Core members Andrew Morris (guitar--from Warsaw, Indiana) and Julie Bates (fiddle--from Kansas City, MO) founded the band in Germany in 2013, where they met while working as English teachers. In the decade since, they have crafted a signature style and live show that leaves spectators laughing, dancing, crying, and wondering what could possibly happen next. Groundbreaking albums like the 2018 space opera Bluegrastronauts and the acoustic/electronic album One Fine Sweet and Sunny Day (2020) have garnered The Matchsellers critical acclaim and a dedicated following across the country.
In the band’s most recent iteration, mandolinist Brian McCarty brings an invaluable lifetime of experience in the Bluegrass tradition, while Brandon Day thrills audiences with his intricate bass solos. Together, thispower‐house four‐piece continuously pushes the boundaries of what acoustic music can be.

Hear a tale and hike a trail with your preschooler to discover the natural wonders around you together! Children and their caregiver(s) gather for a short story that incites curiosity before exploring different places around Merry Lea. This is a 1.5-hour monthly program designed for children ages 3-5, with younger siblings welcome to join, led by a Merry Lea educator.
Registration is not required. Please dress to be outside for the program time.
