Faith Leaders Call On Holcomb To Act On Guns, White Supremacy

Brandon Smith/IPB News

Indiana faith leaders called on Gov. Eric Holcomb Tuesday to “disarm hate.”

The leaders want Holcomb to denounce white supremacy and support gun regulations.

Faith in Indiana –a coalition of faith communities – delivered a petition to Holcomb’s office. Reverend Shonda Nicole Gladden says the call to action comes in the wake of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

“We are here because our governor does not have to wait for Congress to protect Indiana families," Gladden says. "Amen, somebody.”

Pastor David Greene says the group wants Holcomb to support legislation at the state level to ban assault weapons and expand background checks to all gun sales.

“We must move beyond thoughts and prayers to action,” Greene says.

Holcomb last week said he denounces white supremacy and, in his words, “any supremacist groups that seek to terrorize.”
