(You can read more below.)

The victim from the homicide at UP Mall today has been identified as:

CROSBY, DELANEY J. M/B 23

It should also be noted that shortly after the shooting, a social media post was made by a person identified as “ Rafael Delaghetto” claiming to have been the person who shot the victim at the mall. This person has been identified and interviewed at CMHU. He is NOT the shooter / suspect wanted in this homicide case.

PREVIOUS UPDATE:

The St. Joseph Co. Metro Homicide Unit has just released new information on the shooting Saturday at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka.

(You can read the release below.)

At approximately 2:56pm today 9/12/20 the dispatch center received numerous 911 calls reference a shooting inside the mall. Several municipal agencies and the State Police rushed to the scene. Upon arrival it was discovered that a  African American male 22 years old had been shot at least once and was deceased. Officers quickly secured the immediate area inside the scene and secured witnesses. Offices then formed a search and rescue team clearing the entire mall and stores searching for any additional victims or suspects. None were found. The mall has been closed and will be closed for the remainder of the day. It appears that this was an isolated incident where two men began arguing with each other. The suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim. This is NOT an active shooter situation. The entire mall has been secured and locked down for purposes of collecting evidence.

At this time we are currently interviewing several witnesses who may have seen the shooting. Crime scene technicians are diligently working to obtain physical evidence at the scene and reviewing security camera footage.

The victim has been identified but I am holding off releasing the name at this time until we can contact next of kin.

There are no suspects in custody as of this release.  We ask that anyone who may have seen the shooting or has information to call Metro Homicide at 235-5009 or Crime Stoppers at 288- STOP.

ORIGINAL POST:

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say one person is dead after a shooting at the University Park Mall sent shoppers running for safety Saturday.

St. Joseph County Coroner Michael McGann said that one person died in the 3 p.m. shooting at University Park Mall in Mishawaka, but he didn't release additional details.

Police also did not release information on a possible suspect in the shooting, which led to the evacuation of the mall. Renee Dominik tells the South Bend Tribune that after she, her husband and two children heard gunfire they joined others in hiding in a mall shoe store.
