Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese says he will not run for a second term.
Neese was first elected in 2015. He had previously served as an Indiana State Representative and a member of the Elkhart City Council.
Neese’s administration is under increased scrutiny over disciplinary issues within the Elkhart Police Department. He also faces hiring a new police chief after asking Ed Windbigler, whom Neese appointed in 2016, to resign.
Neese’s term expires at the end of next year. He said in a statement he will use the remaining time to continue to focus on public safety, economic development, quality of place, and government efficiency.
