An elderly Goshen resident and former music teacher got the chance to play with the Goshen High School Orchestra Friday morning.
David Scudder is 80-years-old and uses a wheelchair to get around - but that didn’t stop him from tapping his foot to the beat of the Goshen High School orchestra.
Scudder played violin for the class too. He taught music to elementary students in New York, Maine, and Massachusetts before moving to Goshen seven years ago because of his wife’s health.
“And I came out here and I thought ‘this place is really music heaven. Man, you’ve got everything.’ So you have a lot to be thankful for thank god around here,” Scudder said.
He had to get rid of all his instruments during a move and missed playing his violin.
Jenna Barghahn works for Waterford Crossing, the nursing home where Scudder stays. She heard about his wish and knew she had to do something.
“In most of the conversations I’ve had with him all he talks about is music so he’s got a real passion for it and he really loves it,” She said.
Scudder plays other instruments too, like the piano, which he still plays for other residents at the nursing home.
