Health First Indiana

Unity Gardens mostly relies on donations and private grants but county-administered Health First Indiana grants the past two years are expected to drive a record harvest and number of people served this year.

St. Joseph County Commissioners in December announced they were considering moving the health department out of the County-City Building to its own building at Jefferson Boulevard and Eddy Street.

The former Associates Building has been vacant since the private, for-profit American National University closed its location there in 2019.

The county will pay Comcast's marketing arm to produce traditional TV and digital streaming spots promoting the Health Department's Community Health Workers program

If approved by commissioners, Drs. Diana Purushotham and Michelle Migliore would share leadership roles at the St. Joseph County Health Department.

The health department says it doesn't yet know details on how much the two doctors will be paid
