Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker on Wednesday issued a statement saying it could still be months before evidence can be reviewed for her to determine whether two yet-to-be-identified Elkhart Police officers were justified in fatally shooting 17-year-old Bryan Ramirez Gomez on Feb. 8 at High Dive Park. She said she won't release body or dash cam video until her investigation is complete.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter has determined that Mishawaka officers followed Indiana statute for using deadly force when they shot suspects Chad Bean and Stephen Sherwood in separate recent cases.

St. Joseph County prosecutors have charged 55-year-old Stephen Sherwood, on parole for beating a 4-year-old girl to death in 1995, with attempted murder after a New Year's Eve home invasion and stabbing in Mishawaka.

Police say the armed suspect held three adults and two children hostage for over five hours Sunday before SWAT officers negotiated the safe release of all hostages, and took the suspect into custody after an officer shot him.

Following protocol for officer-involved shootings, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County police are investigating the shooting. Police had not yet released details of what happened, names of the person killed or the names of the two South Bend officers who shot them.
