Young Won't Take Position On Trump Impeachment

Dec 17, 2019
U.S. Senate

U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) won’t say whether he’d vote to remove President Donald Trump from office.

Trump is widely expected to be impeached by the U.S. House this week. Under the rules of impeachment, the U.S. Senate should then hold a trial before a vote on whether to remove the president from office.

Young won’t tip his hand right now – he only says he’ll be a “conscientious U.S. senator.”

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The brother of U.S. Sen. Mike Braun says a health problem is causing him to suspend his campaign for the central Indiana congressional seat being given up by Republican Rep. Susan Brooks.

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson says opportunity zones are helping revitalize communities in the Hoosier State and across the country.

Carson and Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) toured a major opportunity zone project in Indianapolis Thursday.

Opportunity zones are low-income areas where investments and developments are eligible for federal tax breaks. There are 156 in Indiana, including one in Indianapolis that’s home to an abandoned factory campus. Carson says it will become two charter schools and a pair of housing complexes.

Two Indiana military construction projects are among those on hold because the Trump administration is diverting $3.6 billion in funding to help pay for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Pentagon released a list of the funding cuts Wednesday.

Both of Indiana’s U.S. Senators balk at support for universal background checks for all gun sales. That comes amid renewed debate over gun regulations in the wake of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.

Federal background checks for gun purchases don’t apply to many sales, including online. Legislation approved by the U.S. House would greatly expand the number of sales required to go through background checks. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) won’t say whether he’d support that expansion.
