UPDATE: Investigators say 11-year-old shot state trooper father after video games were taken away

NEW: Investigators say an 11-year-old Granger boy shot and wounded his state trooper father because he was upset his parents took away his video games.

Investigators say in court records that the boy used his father's service weapon to shoot him once in the buttocks last month.

They say the boy got the gun from the trooper's locked police vehicle outside the family's home.

The boy is due back in court April 10.

ORIGINAL POST:

GRANGER - (AP)  Authorities say an 11-year-old Granger boy who allegedly shot and wounded his father, who is an Indiana State Police trooper, has been charged as a juvenile with attempted murder.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office has filed a petition alleging delinquency for attempted murder which is the juvenile equivalent of a criminal charge.

Authorities say the off-duty trooper suffered a single gunshot wound to his lower extremities February 21.  The trooper was at home at the time.  He was hospitalized and his condition has improved, at least as of last week.

The prosecutor's office is not releasing details about the gun used, including whether it was the trooper's service weapon.
