Thousands of I&M customers were in the dark for hours Thursday in the Granger and Elkhart areas after the utility says a squirrel got into a substation and knocked out power. WVPE was briefly off the air when the initial outage occurred. Thanks to generator power keeping some essential equipment running, WVPE's Jennifer Weingart and Tony Krabill didn't miss a beat and worked in the dark to keep the listeners enlightened.
