Rare Four-Eared Cat is at the Humane Society of Elkhart County

Humane Society of Elkhart County

The Humane Society of Elkhart County has a four-eared cat in it’s shelter.

Doppler is about a year old. She was a stray in Goshen that was brought to the Humane Society.

“Her facial shape is different, her eyes are different, she has a really broad nose and she’s got two ear flaps behind her regular ears and then her ears are down at a lower angle," said Janet Graham is with the Humane Society of Elkhart County. "She kinda looks like a little lion cub or a wild animal cub. And she’s a tortie too so the colors are really fascinating on her.”

Having four ears is a rare genetic mutation in cats. Usually four-eared cats don’t survive, and, if they do, they can have health problems. But Graham says Doppler seems to be healthy and doing well.

Doppler has an adoption pending, but Graham says they have plenty of two-eared cats in the shelter looking for furrever homes.
