Renovated Tolson Community Center To Open In Elkhart

Annacaroline Caruso/WVPE News

Elkhart Parks and Recreation held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate the newly renovated Tolson Community Center.

The Tolson Community Center is back after about a year-long hiatus. The Center closed last summer after losing funding from the City. However, the City is once again funding Tolson.

The Center has 15 new programs including senior pickleball, Lego club, and a finance class. The building has a renovated lobby and fitness area.

The City’s Park and Recreation Department relocated their offices to the new space as well.

Randy Norton is the superintendent of Elkhart Parks and Recreation. He says getting the Tolson Center back up and running was a priority.

“This place is the heart and soul of the community. It’s where people get to come and grow and learn and play.”

Norton also says the department plans to continue updating the Center while it’s open. This means more classes, exterior lighting, and resurfacing the basketball court.

It will officially open on Monday, September 30th.
