Indiana Congresswoman Jackie Walorski Says The State Could See Federal Aid Soon

Annacaroline Caruso

Indiana Congresswoman Jackie Walorski and state Senator David Niezgodski joined leaders from St. Joseph County and South Bend to give an update on the COVID-19 pandemic Thursday.

Both Walorski and Niezgodski gave a national outlook on COVID-19. Walorski said Indiana could start seeing financial aid from the federal government as soon as a few weeks.

“I just want to assure all the residents of St. Joseph County that there is a seamless operation happening right now between the Federal Government, the State of Indiana, and every local county in our jurisdiction.”

Walorski said that aid could include free COVID-19 testing, healthcare resources, two weeks of paid emergency leave for people with COVID-19, tax credits for businesses, and more.

Senator David Niezgodski said his priority is protecting Hoosiers.

“Our leadership must take into account over 6 million hoosiers. That has to be the very first consequence we think of. We have to take care of Hoosiers and do everything in our power.”

Niezgodski said the possibility of a special session of the state legislature has been discussed. The 2020 regular session ended last week.
