The City of Elkhart announced it’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic Friday. Mayor Rod Roberson signed an executive order this morning putting some changes in place.
Starting on March 23rd, access to several public buildings will be restricted. Residents will not be allowed to enter the Lerner Theatre, the National New York Central Railroad Museum, the fire station office, and others. All pavilions and indoor park facilities will be closed.
There are currently no positive test results for COVID-19 in Elkhart County.
Mayor Roberson said he’s concerned St. Joseph County has a similar population to Elkhart County, but has done about 6 times the amount of testing.
“We hope that somehow the state would open up Elkhart County to tests being available as quickly as possible.”
He estimates a little under 100 tests have been done in the County. Roberson was unsure of how many of those tests have been processed and how many are still pending.
A special council meeting is scheduled for Tues., March 24th to discuss more emergency measures.
