St. Joseph County Health Officials Consider Changing COVID Guidelines

Provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/ Alissa Eckert, MS

In response to rising hospitalization rates, St. Joseph County health officials are considering changing the county’s coronavirus health guidelines.

Bob Einterz, chief health officer for St. Joseph County, said that he and other health officials are still discussing all of their options.

“For example, moving the county back a stage from Governor Holcomb’s Stage 5 to more faithful enforcement of abatement orders,” Einterz said.

These changes would hopefully reduce pressure on area hospitals and prevent further strain during the upcoming flu season.

“The hospitals are strained and stressed and stretched, and, likewise and more importantly, the personnel providing those services within the hospital are stretched as well," Einterz said.

If the county does decide to make changes, Einterz said they will be announced at the health department’s regular COVID press conference at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.
