What Local School Districts Can Expect From Most Recent Round Of Pandemic Funding

Lauren Chapman/IPB News

Indiana public schools will receive nearly $1.8 billion from the latest round of federal pandemic funding.

The estimated funding is part of the American Rescue Plan Act, and schools can use it to repay expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic through September 2024.

Elkhart Community Schools is set to receive over $26 million. Goshen Community Schools will receive about $7.8 million and Concord Community Schools, about $5.5 million.

In St. Joseph County, the South Bend Community School Corporation is set to receive over $59 million. The School City of Mishawaka is set to receive about $10 million and Penn-Harris Madison, about $6 million.

Federal requirements say at least 20 percent of that money has to be used on summer-school, after-school or other enrichment programs to make up for learning loss caused by the pandemic. Schools also have to develop and post a public plan for returning to in-person instruction.

According to the state department of education, school districts will receive their final funding allocations in May.
