A Bloomington man has been charged with four crimes in relation to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Antony Vo, 28, is accused of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without authority and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.

Vo is not currently in jail, and will appear in court on July 26.

Vo graduated from Hamilton Southeastern in 2011 and frequently appeared on the honor roll.

He now must surrender his passport and submit to regular monitoring. Vo last attended IU in Spring 2020, but is not enrolled now, a university spokesperson said.

One of Vo’s former classmates from high school and college was not surprised when they first learned of the charges.

“He just kind of became a crazy Trump guy.”

The source asked their name not be used because they have participated in drug use with Vo while at IU.

The source described Vo as “a really nice guy in high school, super sweet, super kind. It all just seemed out of character.”

To friends on Facebook, Vo routinely shared posts supportive of former President Donald Trump and of his trips to music festivals.

In 2019, Vo was charged with two felony drug charges and one misdemeanor in Virginia.

The attorney who represented Vo for those charges declined to comment and said he was no longer representing him.

Vo’s former classmate said Vo routinely attended music festivals and experimented with illegal drugs, but didn’t believe the drug use affected Vo’s academic performance.

“I would say he was smart enough of a guy that he wouldn’t have to spend a lot of time studying either way. I don’t think [drug use] would’ve negatively impacted his academic performance to a point where he would’ve failed out of school.”

The attorney currently representing Vo declined to comment.
