The vast majority of Hoosier counties maintained their “blue” status this week on the state’s color-coded COVID-19 tracking map.
Blue is the least serious of the state’s four color categories, indicating low spread of the virus.
All WVPE listener counties kept their blue status from last week, except for Fulton County – it remains in the “yellow” category, which indicates moderate spread of the virus.
Statewide, only seven of Indiana’s 92 counties remain in the yellow, the same number as last week. According to the state’s vaccine dashboard, between 47 and 48 percent of eligible Hoosiers are now fully vaccinated.
Hospitalizations in Healthcare District 2, which covers most of the WVPE listening area, have reached their lowest levels since the start of the pandemic. Only 19 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized in the district as of June 22, and less than 4 percent of ICU beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients.
At the peak of the pandemic in November, almost 380 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the district.
