A South Bend police officer who recently pleaded guilty to domestic battery in the presence of a child and resisting law enforcement has officially been fired. Emanuel Garcia was accused of assaulting his girlfriend in front of her children at his home, back in February.

South Bend Police Officer Emanuel Garcia has been relieved of duty without pay following a unanimous vote by the South Bend Board of Public Safety on Wednesday.

The South Bend Police Department says three-year veteran Officer Emanuel Garcia was already on desk duty pending an internal affairs investigation from September.
