La Casa de Amistad community engagement director Dara Marquez says honoring Latino immigrants who have helped others, at a time when immigrants are increasingly cast as outsiders, reminds her that Hispanics have called Michiana home for decades.

La Casa de Amistad will hold its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Community Celebration and Awards Ceremony.

Longtime benefactors and avid art collectors Gilberto Cardenas and Delores Garcia have donated more than 120 pieces themed around love and peace to La Casa de Amistad, Michiana’s leading nonprofit Latino advocacy group.

La Casa de Amistad plans three events to mark Hispanic Heritage Month: a Notre Dame football tailgate, a new art gallery, and its annual event honoring unsung heroes in the local Hispanic community.
