Karl King Tower

A dayslong heat outage at Karl King Tower is renewing scrutiny of the building’s owners, as residents and the township trustee describe chronic neglect and a culture of fear.

An officer's body cam video shows stabbing and confinement suspect Christopher Chester coming at six officers with a hammer. Two fired shots at him, hitting him with eight bullets. He died two hours later at a hospital.

Following protocol for officer-involved shootings, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County police are investigating the shooting. Police had not yet released details of what happened, names of the person killed or the names of the two South Bend officers who shot them.
