South Bend Mayor James Mueller says that if the Board of Public Works approves the acquisition Tuesday, he expects the city's redevelopment commission next year to start funding renovation of the vacant building.

The city is giving away the meals this Wednesday and Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 the city of South Bend invites the public to the new MLK Dream Center for the first discussion on what kind of public art will be erected outside the entrance.

The roughly $27 million project has more than doubled in scope from its initial $11 million vision, thanks to an infusion of about $12 million from the American Rescue Plan.
