South Bend School Board To Host Public Meeting About Vacant Board Seat

The South Bend School Board is holding a public meeting Thursday night to begin the process of filling a vacancy left by District 4 trustee Dawn Jones. Jones left the position to be South Bend’s city Clerk.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Madison Steam Academy. The School Board will discuss the qualifications they are looking for in people wanting to fill the interim position.

Applicants are required to be 21 years or older and residents of District 4. They must also be a resident of the school cooperation for at least 1 year and a qualified voter within its boundaries.

Applications are due before 5 p.m. on Tuesday September 3rd. They should be submitted to School Board President John Anella.

The Board is scheduled to vote and appoint a new member on September 16th to fill the remainder of Jones’ term. The interim position ends on December 31st, 2020.

Jones’ served on the school board for 19 years and was recently chosen to replace Kareemah Fowler as South Bend city clerk.
