St. Joseph County Public Libraries are now among the growing list of closures due to the novel coronavirus. All  branches are closed until March 28th.

The hope is that closing all branches will slow the spread of COVID-19.

SJCPL is extending due dates and forgiving overdue charges aquired during this time.

Library spokesperson Jennifer Henecke said their call center will still be open and the Library offers lots of digital resources.

“Even though our physical locations are closed, we are still here for the community.”

Henecke said residents can access ebooks, movies, databases, and more.

She said they will also be increasing their social media presence.

Henecke said making the decision to close was tough but she’s optimistic that many of their services can be accessed digitally.

“We’re confident that we can continue to provide public service. We’re just going to be doing it in a different way.”

Henecke said the library plans to pay all employees during the two weeks it will be closed.
