South Bend Schools partner with Oaklawn and Paramount Health Data Project to connect student health and academics in a first-of-its-kind statewide initiative.

South Bend Police officers' Santa's Elficers program, started in 2016, has outgrown several spaces and they say buying a permanent building will help them continue to grow and serve more kids at Christmas.

The developers of the Riverbend Townhomes withdrew their rezoning requests before the Elkhart County Commissioners and Middlebury Town Council on Monday, drawing applause from audience members at both meetings. But Elkhart County Zoning Administrator Jason Auvil told town council members that a new plan will likely be submitted.

The city of South Bend, after buying the State Theatre in February and repairing its roof, is listing it for sale before starting a process to request proposals from developers interested in putting the historic structure back into use.

With the number of visitors the roughly year-old Indiana Dinosaur Museum already is drawing, plus attractions it still plans to develop, city of South Bend officials say a full traffic signal at U.S. 20 and Olive Road is needed.

“So in the past, when we worked together, whether it was in trauma or our NICU or maternal care, we would do these on a one-off basis, whereas this creates a system and a structure that allows research opportunities, when they present, to kind of be accelerated through the process,” said Beacon Health System Chief Operating Officer Mark Brett.
