At each station, receive a free nature-themed, curiosity-sparking book! This program is free thanks to a generous sponsorship by the St. Joseph County Parks Foundation. It's summer - time to get outdoors with the kids! Join us for a special morning of activities for children five and under. Experience the best of the season with beetles, butterflies, and bugs of all kinds. Catch bugs with a net, hear a bug story, sample a tasty snack, explore the bug activity stations, and play in the Discovery Room! This program is free thanks to a generous grant from the Dr. Elmer R. Graber Youth Fund for Exploring Nature. Registration required by August 1.

Using a scavenger hunt list, find items to attach to your sun catcher to create a natural piece of art to hang at home. *List and sun catcher materials provided. The Running Wild 5K Run is professionally chip-timed with disposable chips on park wooded and open field trails, park roads, grass, and gravel. The 5K event includes awards for the top 3 finishers in each age category. The 3K Wacky Scavenger Hunt Walk is on similar, relatively flat surfaces. Dogs are allowed, on a 6-ft. leash, for the WALK ONLY. Individuals or families with leashed dogs will begin at the back of the walk start. Egg bake breakfast with fresh fruit and our famous homemade granola cookies for registered participants. Terrific door prizes donated by local vendors and the St. Joseph County Parks Foundation and Friends of Bendix Woods and Spicer Lake! (Must be present to win.) This year's hand-crafted participant medallion features a Bald Eagle (one per registered participant, while supply lasts).
Pears Mill, an 1857 water-powered mill in Buchanan, Michigan’s downtown National Register Historic District, is open 9am to 1 pm each Saturday this summer. The mill is adjacent to the Buchanan Farmers’ Market, which is operating at the same time. There is no charge.
