Dangerous Holiday Weekend On Lake Michigan In Indiana, One Teen Dies & A Man Is Missing
The body of a 16-year-old girl was recovered from Lake Michigan near the Michigan City lighthouse pier Monday afternoon.
Meantime a search is underway for an Illinois man who fell off a boat into Lake Michigan Sunday in the Hammond area.

(Michigan City, Ind.) Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after the body of a 16-year-old New Haven, Ind., girl was recovered from Lake Michigan this afternoon.
At around 2 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area near the Michigan City lighthouse pier after the teenager was reported missing in the water while swimming with family.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded and began a search. The girl’s body was recovered by members of the Michigan City Fire Department about 50 minutes later. Life-saving measures were immediately started, and she was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
A National Weather Service beach hazard statement reporting high-risk swimming conditions for the area was in effect at the time of the incident, which remains under investigation.
(Hammond, Ind.) Indiana Conservation Officers are searching for man that has went missing on Lake Michigan.
Last night at approximately 9:00 p.m., Lane Shaedel, 53, of Bloomington, Illinois, fell overboard from a boat near the Hammond Marina and was not located.
Emergency personnel from Illinois and the United States Coast Guard initially responded to the area near the Indiana and Illinois state line in an attempt to locate Shaedel.
Search efforts have concluded for today due to high waves and water conditions. The search will resume tomorrow.
An investigation into this incident is ongoing. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
