St. Joseph County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Mark Fox expressed concern at the county's COVID-19 update on Friday that vaccinations in the county might be plateauing.
He said there are now 30 distribution sites around the county, and enough available appointments for everyone who wants a shot to be able to get one.
However, he said the county’s vaccination rate still isn’t rising as steeply as it has been over the last several weeks.
“With the widespread community transmission, with the prevalence of variants in the county, we can’t afford to be complacent about either mitigation strategies or our vaccine effort,” Fox said.
Fox said the health department is working to get vaccines into local doctors’ offices and to organize mobile clinics for more rural parts of the county. He says he hopes those measures will remove barriers and boost vaccination rates in areas where they currently remain low.
Fox also announced a new online data hub to house the county’s COVID-19 case, death and vaccine data.
