Potawatomi Zoo Reopens To Members With New Front Entrance

Annacaroline Caruso / WVPE Public Radio

The Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend cut the ribbon on a new front entrance over the weekend and just in time for reopening.

The zoo reopened to members on Sunday and visitors got to see the new entrance for the very first time.

The zoo has been closed since march due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new entrance is one part of a several year master plan which outlines different improvements for Potawatomi Zoo like new animal enclosures.

Zoo Executive Director Josh Sisk says the entrance will set a positive tone for a guest’s entire visit.

“It was important to get that front entrance done because that’s your first experience of the zoo," he says. "If you have a bad experience, you’re waiting in line, you’re going to remember that experience. So we’re just putting people into that positive outlook the minute they walk in.”

The Potawatomi Zoo is set to reopen to non-members on June 19th.

Guests need to register for a time slot and purchase tickets online. Face masks are strongly recommended but are not required outdoors. The learning center and playground at the zoo are be closed.
