National New York Central Railroad Museum

As Elkhart develops the area south of downtown, it’s looking for some financial help from the READI Arts and Culture Initiative.

It was October 3, 1851, when the first train arrived in Elkhart. Now, the city is planning a series of events to mark 175 years of rail service.

Locomotive No. 3001, the centerpiece of the National New York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart, is set to receive new life through a partnership between the city of Elkhart and the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society.
