“We’re looking at what options are available to us, but for the time being, we don’t plan on opening in the near future until we are able to find an alternative solution,” Mayor Gina Leichty told the city council Monday.

The City of Niles is beginning the process of expanding hours for marijuana dispensaries in an effort to stay competitive with nearby businesses just outside city limits.

Governor Mike Braun made a stop in Elkhart Thursday during the Indiana Conference of Mayors (ICOM), addressing local leaders on a wide range of topics.

The Elkhart Grand Prix was nationally known in the 1980s and '90s before ending. The city brought the go-kart race back in 2017 and has added attractions with broader appeal like concerts, a cornhole tournament and fireworks.

The South Bend Reparatory Justice Commission hopes to receive feedback and input at two more public meetings, Aug. 9 and 23, before sending a final report to the common council by Dec. 31.

“This plan is really focusing on optimizing the operational capacities. It’s focusing on strengthening community connection and figuring out ways programmatically and through our infrastructure that we can focus in on the health and wellness of the community,” said Jamison Czarnecki, Superintendent of Elkhart Parks & Recreation.
