Sustainable Agriculture and Food Justice Event: Film & Panel | Sept. 24

Join IU South Bend Center for a Sustainable Future and the Environmental Research Coalition (ERC) for a night dedicated to local farms, strong communities, and a just food future!

What: Film screening featuring short segments from the More Than Corn documentary series on Indiana farmers, followed by a panel discussion with local growers.

Borrowing its name from a Brazilian wild sugar-apple, Biribá Union features Mike Block (cello, vocals), Christylez Bacon (beatbox, guitar, rhymes) and Patricia Ligia (electric bass, vocals). The trio met through Silkroad’s Global Musician Workshop, initially bonding over their shared love of Brazilian music.

The artists quickly began co-writing new music that draws on the freestyle theatrics of hip-hop and Go-go music; the effortless beauty of Brazilian forró and choro; the earthiness of American roots music, and the improvisational spontaneity of jazz.

Biribá Union is on a mission to embody cultural acceptance and unification through music — but always with an infectious groove to hook audiences in.

Composer and saxophonist Shawn Maxwell leads his quartet in a program featuring original compositions drawn from his four most recent releases, including his newest recording, Frenetic Domain (2026), alongside selections from his extensive catalog of original works spanning more than two decades. Frenetic Domain features new compositions that bring classical elements into Maxwell's contemporary jazz writing, while works from his J Town Suite draw inspiration from his hometown of Joliet, Illinois, including music honoring places, experiences, and people important to his musical development. Rooted in the traditions of jazz while drawing inspiration from rock, funk, hip hop, R&B, and classical music, Maxwell's compositions reflect a distinctive musical voice through inventive melodies, unexpected forms, and imaginative ensemble writing. The quartet balances carefully crafted compositions with expressive improvisation, creating performances that are both structurally imaginative and dynamically interactive.

Bicycle Safety Rodeo & Youth Bike Repair Clinic
Attend a fun, hands-on Bicycle Safety Rodeo & Youth Bike Repair Clinic on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM at Ironworks Plaza in Mishawaka.
Designed for youth ages 5–18, this FREE event will help children build confidence and learn important bicycle safety skills. Participants will rotate through hands-on safety stations, including helmet fitting, ABC bike safety checks, bicycle safety rules, and a simulated obstacle course.
The event will also feature free helmets, free bicycle safety flags installed on bikes, free minor repairs for youth bicycles, loaner bikes, safety education, prize raffles, and free Kona Ice for the first 200 participants. Three bicycles and family movie gift cards will also be raffled off during the event! See attached flyer or Facebook Event page for details.
Participants may bring their own bicycle or use a loaner bike. Pre-registration is encouraged but does not guarantee participation or reserve a place in line.
Come ride, learn, and have fun while helping your child develop skills that can keep them safer on the road and on the trail!

Indiana residents may fish without a state fishing license in Indiana waters these days only: May 10, June 6 and 7, and September 26, 2026. Free Fishing Days were created by the Indiana General Assembly and are designed each year by the Department of Natural Resources to promote angling as a recreational activity.

Fishing can take place at Ferrettie/Baugo Creek County Park and St. Patrick's County Park.

This beginner-friendly club is all about slowing down, observing nature and connecting with other nature lovers. Bring your favorite journal, curiosity, and a sense of wonder! We will use writing prompts to spark inspiration and provide tips on how to use mixed media such as pencil, paint, photography, and collage.
